Well it use to be that C-4 was kind to get the explosives badge but since the 1.2 patch changes to the game play have changed the way you need to approach getting this series of badges.
First off there are three types of explosives, which you can use to obtain this badge.
1. C-4
2. Claymores
3. AT mines
Now changes made by the patch have caused all three of these devices to change drastically.
C-4: This explosive took the biggest hit to usability. You can no longer throw C-4 this had its drawbacks because of users who used it to just chuck it randomly. We understood the need to reduce its distance because of this "exploit". However it has had drawbacks to normal uses as well, Such as not being able to put it over fences. So if you have a tank and 10 guys on the other side of the fence you will need to find another way to take them out I suggest the bend over and kiss your ass good-bye method in that situation. Also now you cannot deploy C-4 at all when jumping so placing c4 on ceilings around flags and such are out of the question. Deployment of each C-4 unit also takes longer. So pretty much C-4 offensive and defensive capabilities have been really reduced all the way around.
Claymores: This item was literally hated with a passion by many players. For good reason it caused a ton of Team kills. However now friendly units don't trigger it anymore. Also explosives such as grenades or tank shells cannot take them out anymore. So they will stay in place pretty much until you die, or an enemy unit triggers the claymore.
Mines: Ah mines another great cause for team kills prior to the 1.2 patch. Now just like the claymores it is no longer a threat to friendly units. Also like claymore you cannot destroy them. You can however wrench them to pick them up with the engineer kit.
Tactics:
Now with the changes to C-4 most of the old tactics to getting your badge are out of date. So here are our methods of getting the most kills with what you have.
Mines: First choice for explosives badge MINES! Yeah you heard me right! Mines now can be thrown about like candy with no worries of getting team kills from friendly noobs running them over with a vod full of guys. (By default on most servers but friendly fire with mines can be turned on by the admin so be warned). Now I suggest you visit our mines page. Here for tactics on how to use the mine.
When trying to get a badge though you are going to have to be a little less cautious. First off you have 5 mines. Now your looking for a high amount of kills so you don't want to just keep all 5 mines lining one road. You need to put them out in 5 good spots to nail vehicles. Now of course you want to put them in high traffic areas. One of the best for this is karkand.
First you always have the rushers, guys trying to shoot to the back with a hummer full of guys. You need to cover as many of those paths as possible. There are 6 main paths to get into karkand three roads and a couple of back routes. You cant cover all 6 of them effectively so you need to figure out which routes will be taken most cases the three main roads are the choice because they are fast and noobs are impatient so they gun it and pray. With any luck you will nail a couple fully loaded hummers or APCs right off the bat.
As the round progresses you may need to take a more aggressive approach to getting those kills. Keep an eye on vehicle spawn points. Mines them! If friendly jumps in so be it he will roll off none the wiser. If an enemy jumps in boom mines shot! This works great in keeping enemy armor under wraps. If you get a squad mate with you who is support you can cause a ton of damage keeping enemy armor in check and get those kills you need.
C-4: You cant throw it anymore but its still a useful way to get the badge:
The first spot we recommend is the first area on karkand where some of the most action in the game happens. Between the hotel flag and the American spawn point to the south. The small entrance is the main route that many American soldiers take to gain access to the hotel flag. It can be brutal fighting in this area. Before the main thrust of American troops is in the area make your way here and place a c4 on the wall near the small entrance then back up and take cover and wait.
Once you see an enemy troop show up boom…
Now once you let off your explosion its important to rush back to the front and replace the c4 you just blew. Remember it now takes longer to deploy your c4 so have it in hand and ready to deploy and get out of there asap!
wash and repeat.
Now if the hotel is overrun you can fall back to the square flag method which is just climbing to the top of the square flags building and chucking c4 on unsuspecting victims trying to capture the flag.
Once the enemy tries to capture the flag ..click.boom
Now one of the most debated methods to this is the suicide bomb method. Although it can work blowing up respawning setting up the next bomb can be time consuming and sometimes you may only get one if any kills for your efforts. If you do choose this method make sure to spread the c4 out evenly so you get a good blast radius. If done properly it can take out a whole group of enemies at once. Remember to have the detonator in hand before jumping in the vehicle you may not have the time to switch once you get out.

If you don't want to rack up a bunch of deaths you can also fill the back of a vod/hummer etc. and drive it to an enemy base. When they jump in boom. This can get you several kills if a squad jumps in.
If your skilled enough you can use Karkand #1 to throw c4 down onto enemy soldiers.
The COW method aka the MEC chopper: First you will need a good chopper pilot, 2 engineers, support, medic, and of course you as spec ops. The engineers will help repair, the support will supply you with ammo, medic will heal you and you of course will blow crap up. You will need good communication with you pilot to get this down. Have him call out when you should drop your c4 remember after the patch it takes longer to deploy C-4.
Claymores: I recommend you check out our claymore page Here. Since the 1.2 patch claymores are much easier to get kills with and not worry about enemy units. If you lay one out near an enemy base your going to get a kill. Do that 13 times and you have a badge. Get a team mate as support and go hunting. Try placing them in high traffic areas and near openings in fences etc. Along roads can work to. Two Claymores can kill buggies.
With C-4 being nurfed this badge is going to be hard to get. It may take you several tries but dont worry in time you'll get it!
